Experiences on Meditation

July 2nd, 2007 by Osman

I am not an advanced person on meditation. I am not even an intermediate. I dreamed on meditating for years. Finally last week, I decided to sit for about 30 minutes. I would like to share what I felt.

Well, it is not easy to concentrate on the first hand. Many thoughts flow while you are trying to concentrate on nothing. This is so much like brainstorming by yourself that you can use this for creative thinking.

For emptying your mind, experts usually suggest concentrating on your breath. This suggestion has both practical and philosophical meanings. Since meditation is a form of prayer primarily for Hinduism and Buddhism, and since the main idea of them are “the truth that everything passes by”, breathing in and out represents the temporary aspect of life.

On the practical side, it is really convenient to concentrate on your breathing in order not to think about anything else.

For a decent meditation, don’t force yourself not to think about anything. Let your thoughts flow and treat them as your guests. Listen to them and know that the listening period is temporary. Thus, you can have you thoughts listened and see them pass by.

This is also very good in terms of relaxation. I’ll continue to post about my experiences on meditation.
